Want to go on a spontaneous road-trip and come back in one day? My friend and I did a one-day road-trip from Dallas to Fredericksburg to Austin then back to Dallas in 21 hours.
To put things in perspective, that was more than 8 hours of driving for about 500 miles.
The screenshot pretty much captured the route we took in one day.
It was a pretty epic trip for me. I've never been in a car for so long in a day.
But enough talk about the driving part of the trip, let me take you along my journey in Texas!
Stop 1: Dallas
Have to admit, I didn't know much about this place before flying over. I was just there to visit a friend of mine and contacted a couple friends of mine who are from there to get a list of spots to check out.
My first impression was that Dallas is really green! Probably especially green compared to LA. Then I realized that Dallas has a diverse group of people, pretty much as diverse as LA. If it were not for the Southern accent and the Southern hospitality, I probably would not even notice that I was not in LA. This came as a surprise to me, but a good surprise. I came to Texas to find out how different it is from California, but on the first look, it turned out to be: not so much.
Most things in Dallas are quite new. Many houses are almost brand new; streets are clean; restaurants are quite hip. Would I tell you that I was a little surprised again?

I didn't take any pictures on the first day that I arrived. First because I was quite tired and second because there wasn't much to take pictures of that night. It seems like Dallas can be quite tame without having families and friends around.
Stop 2: Fredericksburg
I still remember attempting to pronounce this town's name in German. My pronunciation was hilarious.
Why would I want to pronounce the name in German, you ask? Well, because this is a German town in Texas!
It was so cute and I didn't regret driving more than three hours from Dallas to visit it.
Here is a picture of the library in town. It was pretty grand and this picture doesn't do its justice.
Well what did we do there? I'll catch you up in part 2 of my Mess with Texas series. There is quite a lot of experience that I want to share with you! Stay tuned!
